Allegri: ‘We won the points on the pitch’

Start

Max Allegri explained his tactical choices ahead of Juve’s match against Sporting Lisbon and reiterated that he believes his players won their 59 points on the pitch. The Bianconeri carry a slender lead from the first leg in Turin but are boosted by the return of Federico Chiesa to the starting XI, something that Allegri was quick to point to ahead of the match when speaking with Sky Sport:

You have been given points back; you are third with 59 points. What does it also mean for the team? Can it galvanize you?

“No, let’s say that for us the points were always 59, as I always said, the guys won them on the field. Now we see them visually. Certainly today was a special day, however, the boys are focused on what we have to do tonight, knowing the difficulties of the game.”

Why Chiesa and Miretti?

“Federico has to play a good game from the offensive aspect, the whole team, when there is space to attack, has to do it better, because we will have chances, and when we have to defend, we have to defend all together, as is normal when playing a football match.”

What kind of attitude will Juventus have to have?

“An attitude of balance, but tonight the game passes more than on the defensive side, on the offensive side, in managing the ball, in trying to do well technically, especially to create difficulties for Sporting.”
