Allegri: “We’re attacking better now but we’ve got worse defensively”

Max Allegri shared his thoughts on Juve’s last ditch 2-1 win over Salernitana: “We’re attacking better now but we’ve got worse defensively.” The Bianconeri left it until the dying minutes of the game to secure a vital three points, with Dusan Vlahovic scoring a header to make it 2-1. Speaking post-match, Allegri suggested they needed to work more on the back-line having conceded first in their last two games:

“We have a team in front that is Inter and they are doing important things. Winning today was important to break away from fifth place. Now we have the Coppa Italia and we have to reach the semi-final. Right now we are also doing well physically, we have also grown in terms of serenity.

“They played a good game, tonight overall we played a good game. The thing that’s not good is that when you concede goals several times, because then there’s the perception that every time they throw the ball into the box we can score”.

“Lately we’ve been attacking the goal much better, however, we’ve worsened in the defensive phase. The victory is important but we must also look at what has worsened. There are moments when the team gives you the feeling of being vulnerable, that thing must be improved.”

“Vlahovic? We have to make use of him better, right now he’s in confidence. Now he’s cleaner technically and has time to improve further. 46 points is a lot, let’s take one step at a time.

“Frosinone next? They never stops playing, the game must be approached well. One must always try to improve. VAR is subjective: you have to accept it as it is. The important thing is not to pass it off as objective.”
