Roma midfielder Houssem Aouar admits that he has struggled for form since joining the Giallorossi in the summer. The Frenchman arrived on a free transfer in June, saying that making the switch to Rome was the right decision for him. Despite making a concerted effort to try and fit in, the 25-year-old has struggled for form at times, failing to make an impact in key games. Speaking ahead of Roma’s Europa League fixture with Sheriff Tiraspol, Aouar remained adamant that he can turn around his form by playing more frequently:
“I’m ready for tomorrow. I hope to play because I haven’t played much in the past games. I know I have to do better to help the team and I hope I can do it.”
“We always want to win because when we play for Roma that’s the goal. We know it will be difficult to finish first, but it’s not impossible. Tomorrow we will play with a winning mentality and hope to finish first in the group at the end of the match.”
“It’s the first time I’m away from Lyon. I know I have to learn. It’s difficult for me now, I had two bad games in Prague and Geneva. I know my performances were not good enough. With humility I know that I have to prove to the coach that I can do more. I’m confident, starting tomorrow.”
“Italian football is better than French football. In France there is more physicality, here more tactics and technically they are better in Italy. I hope that in the future I will become a good player in Italy. My future is in Rome.”
“Mourinho? The coach is a real, honest person. He helps me a lot to learn how to play differently with the team. I like this too, his winning mentality is important for winning games. It’s more difficult for me but now I want to put in great performances for the team and fans.”
