Aquilani leading contender over Palladino and Gilardino for post-Italiano era

Alberto Aquilani is now leading the race to replace Vincezo Italiano as Fiorentina coach, taking the lead over Raffaele Palladino and Alberto Gilardino.

Aquilani has massively improved the fortunes of Pisa, adopting an attacking approach, with a philosophy honed on the training grounds of Fiorentina with the young players of the Primavera.

Calciomercato report that as such, his impressive feats in Serie B have led to Fiorentina eyeing his as the leading successor to Italiano, who looks set to leave in the summer.

Viola president Rocco Commisso considers Aquilani ‘part of the family’, a sentiment he shared with the late Joe Barone. As of today, the Viola ownership is intent on following the line of continuity: Aquilani wants to command the game and has several points in common with Italiano.

Pisa president Corrado had already mentioned, in a recent interview on Radio Sportiva, that he did not want to clip Aquilani’s wings in the event of a call from Fiorentina. The alternatives Palladino and Gilardino are, at the moment, further behind.
