Atalanta CEO: “Selling Koopmeiners was never on the agenda…’

Atalanta’s CEO Luca Percassi has made a strong statement regarding the potential transfer of Teun Koopmeiners to Juventus, asserting that the club has no plans to sell the player. During the presentation of new signing Ben Godfrey, Percassi emphasized, “Koopmeiners is a fundamental player for Atalanta, and the club has not planned for his departure. I want to be clear: his sale has never been considered.”

This declaration raises questions about whether it represents a definitive closure on the matter or if it’s merely a negotiation tactic in an ongoing transfer saga. As reported earlier, Juventus has been courting Koopmeiners for months and has already secured the player’s approval for a move to Turin. The Dutch midfielder has been ignoring interest from Premier League clubs, particularly Liverpool, as he waits for Juventus to make their move.

However, Juventus now face pressure to accelerate negotiations with Atalanta. If they fail to conclude the deal promptly, the situation could change, and the player’s resolve might begin to waver.

Percassi’s statement appears to send a clear message to Juventus: Atalanta is unwilling to lower their asking price for Koopmeiners. The Bergamo-based club is reportedly demanding at least €60 million for the midfielder, with no interest in including player exchanges as part of the deal.
