Atalanta leading the race to sign Lens defender Kevin Danso

Start

Atalanta are reportedly leading the race to sign Austrian defender Kevin Danso, but they’ll face competition from West Ham and Wolves for his signature. The 25-year-old centre-back has become a key player for RC Lens, but is drawing attention from several top clubs across Europe during this summer transfer window. Despite his important role at Lens, the club has reportedly given Danso permission to explore transfer opportunities.

According to Footmercato, Danso has caught the eye of prominent Italian clubs, including Atalanta Bergamo and Napoli. Interest from England has also emerged, with Wolverhampton and West Ham closely monitoring the player’s situation.

Danso joined Lens in the summer of 2021 after spells with Augsburg, Southampton, and Fortuna Düsseldorf. He quickly established himself as a crucial part of the Lens defense alongside Jonathan Gradit and Facundo Medina. His outstanding performance in the 2022-2023 season, where Lens boasted the best defense in Ligue 1, elevated his status and attracted attention from European giants like Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old center-back, known for his strength in duels, aerial ability, and skilled ball distribution, recently showcased his talents at Euro 2024 with the Austrian national team. Despite a more challenging 2023-2024 season for both Danso and Lens, his potential remains highly regarded.

The report suggests that Atalanta appear to be leading the race for Danso’s signature, having already initiated discussions with the player’s representatives. However, RC Lens are not willing to let their prized defender go cheaply. The French club is reportedly demanding a minimum of €25 million for any potential transfer.
