Balotelli reportedly close to joining Spanish third-tier club Intercity

Start

Mario Balotelli, the former Italian international striker, is reportedly on the verge of a surprising move to Intercity Football Club, a team based in Alicante that competes in the Spanish third division. This potential transfer would mark Balotelli’s first experience in Spanish football, adding to his already diverse career that has seen him play in Italy, England, Turkey, and Switzerland.

According to reports from Spanish media outlet Cadena Cope (via Calciomercato), negotiations between Balotelli’s agent, Enzo Raiola, and Intercity’s management are at an advanced stage. The club has reportedly offered the 34-year-old striker a contract until June 30, 2025, with an option for an additional year.

However, there are some hurdles to overcome before the deal can be finalized. Intercity would need to create space in their squad by releasing one of their current “senior” players, as they have reached their limit for such registrations. The club, currently struggling near the bottom of the table with only 6 points, sees Balotelli as a potential game-changer to revitalize their season.

Balotelli, who has played for top clubs including Inter Milan, Manchester City, Liverpool, and AC Milan, is currently a free agent after his last stint with Adana Demirspor in Turkey. He has been keeping fit by training independently in Brescia with a personal fitness coach.

In a recent interview with DAZN, Balotelli expressed his desire to return to Serie A, stating, “I want to return to Serie A, that’s why I’m still at home. I’ve received offers from abroad, but I’ve slowed everything down because I hope to return to Serie A.”
