Barone: ‘We’ll talk to Italiano at the end of the season’

Fiorentina director Joe Barone says the club will meet with coach Vincenzo Italiano to discuss a contract extension. Italiano has a two-year contract with La Viola with an option for another year and given Fiorentina’s push for European football this season, a renewal seems a formality. Barone was asked about this and a number of other issues when speaking to FirenzeViola.it after yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Empoli:

The importance of Artemio Franchi for the city and for Italian football is evident. Yesterday’s victory? It’s important, especially in a Tuscan derby. We have to think game by game, the next one is in Naples and we need continuity. The championship is becoming interesting in the fight for Europe and we are there, but it takes concentration and a lot of work.

Italiano’s renewal? We have an excellent relationship with Vincenzo and there is an option in his contract in favour of Fiorentina. Then we’ll see at the end of the season, we will sit down at talk as we always do but he also has an excellent relationship with Rocco.

The new badge? We are focused on Fiorentina’s present and future. Everyone can say what they think but I don’t think it’s time today to do this kind of contestation because the team needs support. I’m just saying we’re lucky to have Rocco Commisso because he’s investing a lot in Fiorentina.

We are focused game by game, we think of Naples. The key word is continuity.

Castrovilli’s renewal? I always go to dinner with everyone. Except that some of you (journalists) see us. Gaetano has a contract and we respect the contracts: we will see at the end of the season.”
