Bologna targeting Brest’s Brassier for the summer

Bologna have set their sights on Brest centre-back Lilian Brassier, but face competition from a number of other sides. The 24-year-old played a big role in the Ligue 1 side securing qualification to next seasons Champions League for the first time in the clubs history.

Sky Sport Italia now report that following the official appointment of Vincenzo Italiano as their new head coach, Bologna are now focusing on bolstering their squad for the upcoming summer transfer window. The club is particularly keen on strengthening its defensive line and are advancing talks to acquire Brassier from Brest. The Bologna technical staff has closely monitored the defender and consistently received positive reports.

Bologna’s transfer committee will discuss Brassier’s potential arrival with  Italiano, who must approve the move. The team is eager to proceed, but Italiano’s consent is crucial for finalizing the deal.

Given Brest’s Champions League qualification, the Ligue 1 side  are demanding a significant fee for Brassier, with a price tag between €12 and 15 million. Olympique Marseille have already initiated contact with Brest regarding teh defender. If Sergio Conceicao is appointed as OM’s new head coach, the defender might favour staying in Ligue 1 and joining the French club. Conceicao, a known admirer of Brassier, previously attempted to bring him to Porto, but Brassier declined the move. However, he seems open to the prospect of playing for Marseille.

In Italy, aside from Bologna, Fiorentina and Torino have shown interest in Brassier, yet, none of these Serie A clubs have engaged in direct talks with Brest so far. Additionally, Wolfsburg from the Bundesliga is another potential suitor to watch.
