Chiesa expected to leave Juve, despite having met with Thiago Motta

Start

Federico Chiesa’s future at Juventus remains uncertain following a crucial meeting with the club’s new head coach, Thiago Motta. The Italian winger, who has been training separately from the team, finally met Motta face-to-face after a series of distant communications. These conversations had already hinted at Chiesa’s potential departure, as Motta does not see him as central to his plans for the team.

Corriere dello Sport report how Juventus resumed training at their Continassa facility after a short break, marking an important day as Chiesa joined his teammates on the field for the first time since the German training retreat. Despite this, the physical presence did little to bridge the gap concerning his future at the club. The meeting between Chiesa and Motta confirmed that the winger is not considered a strategic fit for the new squad, even though there could be a tactical role for him in Motta’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

Chiesa’s contract negotiations, set to expire in 2025, have stalled, primarily due to his demands for a salary increase, which Juventus finds unacceptable. The club, having invested €60 million in Chiesa in 2020, is keen to avoid losing him for free next year. As a result, they are open to his transfer, seeking offers of at least €30 million.

The uncertainty surrounding Chiesa’s future is compounded by his agent’s efforts to explore opportunities in the Premier League, with Chelsea and Tottenham showing interest. However, no concrete developments have emerged from these discussions. Chiesa is determined to prove his worth and possibly stay another year, allowing him to choose his next club freely from January. This scenario is something Juventus is eager to avoid.

The meeting did not bring any surprises, and Chiesa remains on the market, awaiting potential suitors. Unlike other players deemed surplus to requirements, such as Arek Milik, Filip Kostic, Weston McKennie, Daniele Rugani, Arthur, and Mattia De Sciglio, Chiesa continues to train with the main group, highlighting a significant distinction in his situation.
