Como striker Patrick Cutrone has publicly denounced the barrage of online abuse he received following his team’s recent loss to Udinese. The match, which ended in defeat for Como, saw Cutrone miss a crucial penalty in the closing minutes, leaving his team with just one point in the league standings.
In the aftermath of the game, Cutrone’s social media profiles were flooded with abusive messages. The striker revealed that both he and his family were subjected to insults and death threats from a group of angry supporters.
Taking to Instagram, Cutrone addressed the situation, stating:
“I accept criticism as it should be, but I won’t let these things slide. This is just one example of many.”
The player shared screenshots of some of the offensive messages, which included horrific wishes of illness and death directed not only at him but also at his wife and children.
As of now, neither Como nor the league authorities have issued an official statement regarding the abuse directed at Cutrone. However, such incidents often prompt calls for stronger measures to protect players from online harassment and for platforms to take more decisive action against abusive users.
