According to Il Corriere dello Sport, the transfer saga involving Victor Osimhen’s potential move from Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain has hit a standstill. The Nigerian striker has a release clause of €130 million, but PSG are seeking a discount from Napoli, causing the deal to stall.
The newspaper details how Osimhen recently returned to Naples with his teammates and is expected to join them for the second phase of pre-season training in Castel di Sangro. Despite his absence from a recent friendly match against Mantova, which appeared to be a clear indication of an impending transfer, an agreement between the clubs has not yet been reached.
The main issue revolves around the transfer fee. PSG are unwilling to pay the full release clause and is pushing for a reduced price. Napoli are open to negotiations but is reluctant to significantly lower their asking price. A potential solution could involve including Lee Kang-In as part of the deal, but PSG is hesitant to let go of the South Korean player.
Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has already rejected several offers from PSG, including a €200 million bid for both Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and subsequent offers around €80-90 million for Osimhen alone. De Laurentiis is adamant about receiving a three-figure sum, well over €100 million, for the striker.
If the transfer goes through, Napoli plans to invest part of the proceeds in acquiring Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, with a proposed deal of €25 million plus bonuses and a three-year contract for the Belgian striker.
As it stands, Osimhen is expected to be included in Napoli’s squad list for their training camp in Castel di Sangro. However, the situation remains fluid, and developments could occur rapidly in the next 48 hours. If no breakthrough is achieved soon, Osimhen’s future may once again dominate the narrative of Napoli’s pre-season preparations.
