Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed the signing of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia while apologizing to club fans. The Azzurri suffered a shock 3-2 loss to Empoli at the weekend, a result that reportedly saw the president speak frankly with the players over their disappointing form.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss, De Laurentiis discussed the result, the future of Dries Mertens and confirmed Napoli’s first summer signing:
I apologise to the Napoli fans for the very bad defeat against Empoli. Mertens? I was at his house yesterday, we will meet again at the end of the season, but he loves Naples and Napoli
I had sent him a medal with pictures of Vesuvius to put on the neck of his newly born son who is as already as lively as his father. I told Dries that he has an option for another year and we have to sit down and establish the details… when? maybe at the end of the season. If he wants to stay in this city we are ready. Ciro is in love with the lifestyle in Naples. He is the person who left his mark with the number of goals. There should be no problems with a renewal, but never say never in life.
Kvaratskhelia? I can call him Giorgio. I hope I made a good signing, he is essentially a full-fledged Napoli player.”
