De Rossi: “I can’t give you a precise date on Smalling’s return”

Start

Daniele De Rossi offered an update on Paulo Dybala but explains that he can’t give a precise date on Chris Smalling’s return. The Giallorossi coach won his first match in charge of his childhood club last weekend, securing a vital 2-1 win over Verona at the Olimpico. Speaking ahead of their trip to Salernitana, De Rossi offered some updates on his squad and the injury status of various players:

“I decided the goalkeeping hierarchy when I arrived. Rui had always performed very well, and one match doesn’t change the hierarchy. I believe that the goalkeeper is a position where there must be hierarchies. They are not eternal, but a mistake does not change my opinion on Rui Patricio.”

Regarding the form of his team, he provided an update on the conditions of Smalling and Kumbulla, saying: “Smalling is training with Kumbulla and Renato Sanches. We monitor them, and I watch the training sessions. I think they will start doing something with us from next week. However, I can’t give you a very specific date.”

He also talked about other injured players: “Paulo seemed to me to be doing well, and I see him even more brilliant than in the first week. Huijsen stopped for a few days, although he trained with us yesterday. He will start with us. Mancini is doing well, and I liked his involvement. Aouar is returning from the Africa Cup, so he comes back trained even though he has made many trips. I consider him a ready player.”
