Didier Deschamps Speaks About Paul Pogba Ban: “He Will Defend Himself”

Start

In light of the announcement of his squad for the upcoming friendly matches of the French national team, Didier Deschamps explained that he had spoken with Paul Pogba after the announcement of his four-year suspension due to a positive test for testosterone in the summer of 2023.

Pogba’s absence from the French national team has become routine, despite having notched up  91 caps and 11 goals, and he has not been at Clairefontaine since March 29, 2022. Having tested positive for testosterone last August, the Juventus player has been sentenced to a four-year suspension by the national anti-doping organization.

Following the announcement of his squad for the matches against Germany (March 23) and Chile (March 2+6), Deschamps discussed the future of the Juve player in the French national team:

“I have spoken with him; mentally and psychologically, it’s tough,” he explained. “He will give all his strength to defend himself, but the judgment is very harsh. He has appealed; he will defend himself as best he can. I don’t like to have a categorical position on the future. I hope above all that he will be able to rediscover the joy of playing on the field. Then, to rejoin the French team…”
