Genoa forward Mateo Retegui is set to join Atalanta as the club’s chosen replacement for the injured Gianluca Scamacca. Following recent evaluations, Atalanta have made a decisive move, and the club have now finalised the transfer with Genoa. The goal is to have Retegui arrive in Bergamo in the coming hours.
According to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, after alternating roles during the European Championships, Retegui is now set to step into Scamacca’s shoes at Atalanta, following the latter’s left knee injury. The two clubs are in the final stages of negotiations, working to ensure Retegui can join his new team as soon as possible. The medical could take place as early as tomorrow, given that La Dea want to have the player available for the start of the new Serie A season.
The deal between Atalanta and Genoa is reported to be worth €22 million , with an additional €3 million in potential bonuses.
Retegui’s performance in his debut Italian season has been impressive. He featured in 29 Serie A matches for Genoa, scoring seven goals and providing two assists. Additionally, he made two appearances in the Coppa Italia, where he netted twice and provided one assist.
This transfer marks a significant move for both Atalanta and Retegui, as the club looks to maintain its competitive edge in Serie A despite Scamacca’s absence. The Italian-Argentine forward’s arrival is eagerly anticipated in Bergamo, where he will aim to continue his goal-scoring form in the upcoming season.
