Swedish defender Samuel Dahl is on the verge of completing a move from Djurgården to Italian giants AS Roma. The deal, which was finalized late Tuesday evening, is set to become a record-breaking transfer for a defender sold by Djurgården.
Swedish news outlet SportBladet report that the transfer fee is expected to be around 45-50 million Swedish kronor (approximately €4-4.5 million) in upfront payment, with potential bonuses that could push the total value to nearly 70 million kronor (about €6 million). This makes it not only the most expensive defender sale in Djurgården’s history but also the highest fee ever paid for a full-back from the Swedish Allsvenskan.
Dahl, who joined Djurgården from Örebro SK in the spring, has had a meteoric rise in the Allsvenskan. He has been widely regarded as the league’s best left-back in 2024 and has already made his debut for the Swedish national team under coach Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Djurgården’s sporting director, Bosse Andersson, confirmed the advanced negotiations, stating, “I can confirm that we have had intense dialogue with Roma in recent days. I think it might start smoking in Rome soon.” He refrained from providing further details at this time.
The plan is for Dahl to fly to Rome this week for a medical examination and to sign his contract. This means his last match for Djurgården is likely to be the upcoming fixture against FC Progres Niederkorn on Thursday.
