Frattesi: ‘The booing of Donnarumma was unwarranted’

Start

Azzurri goal hero Davide Frattesi believes the pre-game booing of teammate Gianluigi Donnarumma was unwarranted. Italy ran out 2-1 winners over Ukraine in their EURO 2024 qualifying group, but there were ugly scenes before the match as Donnarumma’s name was booed by the San Siro crowd.

Speaking after scoring a brace to secure Italy the victory, Frattesi spoke of the improved performance under new coach Luciano Spalletti, and also explained why he believe’s it was wrong to boo Donnarumma:

“I didn’t think it would be such a beautiful evening but the important thing is that the goals allowed the team to win. It’s a shame just because the goal was conceded but we have to give ourselves time. The path is the right one.”

“This midfield has more attackingtasks, this helps us and there is the possibility of inserting ourselves to find the right spaces.”

“Milan derby? It’s certainly a week that started well, we’ll try to finish it very well. We’re excited.”

“The booing of Donnarumma? I’ve never seen something like this in the national team, something unworthy. I don’t understand why he gets booed like that. The boos don’t affect him anyway.”
