Gasperini: ‘I’m staying with Atalanta’

Start

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed that he will be remaining with the club, following La Dea’s impressive 3-0 victory over Torino.  Gasperini had been the subject of interest from Napoli, with Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis a known admirer of the coach.

Speaking after the win against Torino, Gasperini confirmed to Sky Sport Italia that his future remained with the Bergamasci:

Post-Match Interview: Gasperini Reflects on Europa League Qualification

Gasperini opened the interview by expressing his delight at qualifying for the Europa League: “Are we aware of the significance of our achievement? Yes, we are. There’s an incredible euphoria in Bergamo these days. People are ecstatic. It’s truly wonderful and extraordinary. I believe the celebrations will continue this week with significant festivities. You can feel it in the stadium today, and the players felt it too. Their performance on the field showed a team that still wanted to play, run, and achieve results.”

Looking Ahead to Next Season

Discussing the upcoming season, Gasperini acknowledged the challenges ahead: “The next season will be demanding, but not more than this one. It’s impossible to exceed this season’s intensity since we haven’t stopped playing every three days. We might add prestigious matches like the European Super Cup. A potential clash with Real Madrid would be extraordinary, and we hope for it. These are prestigious challenges that haven’t been seen for many years in Europe from a club like Atalanta, which has no history of European victories. Even Bayer Leverkusen had won in Europe before. This is a remarkable record for us.”

Addressing Rumors and Announcing His Stay

Responding to speculation about interest from Napoli and its president Aurelio De Laurentiis, Gasperini effectively announced his commitment to Atalanta: “I have always been focused on Atalanta’s matches, the Europa League, the Coppa Italia, and our goal of reaching the Champions League. De Laurentiis has appreciated me for many years, and I don’t deny that. It’s flattering. However, I believe I was just one of many candidates in his thoughts. Napoli will make its choice, but I am an Atalanta coach and will remain so. Napoli will undoubtedly build a great team, as they already have a strong foundation.”
