Gian Piero Gasperini believes the 4-1 scoreline against Genoa flattered Atalanta a little but is pleased with consolidating 4th place. Goals from Charles De Ketelaere, Teun Koopmeiners, Davide Zappacosta and El Bilal Toure helped secure an important away win, with Gasperini calling it an important win in his post-match interview with DAZN:
“It’s a very important victory, on a very difficult field. We weren’t at our best, but we played with attention, and in the end, the result was also a bit generous.”
Regarding the triple substitution at the beginning of the second half, Gasperini commented: “Credit to Genoa, who were playing with great strength. Some of our players were less sharp than them, and with the changes, we managed to change the situation.”
On De Ketelaere’s performance, Gasperini said: “In the first half, he did something extraordinary, even before scoring. The young man is here and will grow even more. He has all the qualities to do well. Celebration? I don’t think it’s anything offensive.”
Koopmeiners scored his first goal from a direct free-kick: “A very important goal, from there onwards, we had a lot of spaces to close the game.” On Tourè: “He was out since mid-March, he had to undergo two consecutive surgeries. We are happy because he has found his smile again.”
In conclusion, Gasperini spoke about the fixture list: “Taking it seriously? Tonight was tough too. It will be the same with Sassuolo. We are coming from a good streak of results; we will recover Lookman and have great motivations. The schedule will be tough. Fourth place? We are pleased, but what makes me happiest is that we have room for improvement.
