Gasperini: ‘We did well but we need to be more cynical’

Start

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini was very pleased with his teams 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon, but believes they need to be more cynical. La Dea maintained their 100% record in the Europa League this season with their second win on the bounce, with goals coming from Giorgio Scalvini and Matteo Ruggeri. Speaking with Sky Sport after the game, Gasperini praised his players but explained the need for improvement in their approach:

“We did very well, we needed to be a bit more cynical. We dropped in the second half, that’s how it is in Europe. They are first in the Portuguese league. Scalvini and Ruggeri did well, but then there are those of the old guard who always give a hand.”

“We need to bring in a few players because we are playing so many matches and tiredness is taking its toll. Lookman? Tonight he played perhaps the best game of the season. Scamacca, Holm and De Ketelaere must grow in pace and mentality.”
