The director of sports for Genoa, Marco Ottolini, spoke to Sky Sport just before the team’s match against Monza. His comments primarily revolved around the club’s transfer activities and the future of Mario Balotelli, who appears to be on his way out of the club.
Ottolini began by emphasizing that the team’s performance on the field would not be affected by individual players. He stated, “The field does not matter. We will try to play our game regardless of the interpreters. We have already achieved our objectives in the market.” This reflects a sense of confidence in the team’s overall strategy despite individual circumstances.
Regarding Balotelli’s situation, Ottolini revealed that the striker has fallen down the pecking order and is eager to find playing time elsewhere. He noted, “Mario has dropped in the hierarchy; he has a strong desire to play. In the last days of the market, we will seek a suitable solution for everyone; we are looking for a place where he can go and play.” This indicates that both the club and Balotelli are seeking a resolution that allows him to regain his form and find a more prominent role on another team.
In addition to discussing Balotelli, Ottolini addressed other aspects of the transfer market, including recent transactions involving players like Cambiaso. He remarked on the beneficial nature of these deals, stating, “It was a favorable operation for everyone. A resale clause? It can help our club, as happened with Dragusin last year.”
He also commented on their new goalkeeper, Sigris, explaining that they were in search of a reliable replacement for Gollini. “We were looking for a substitute for Gollini. The new owner knows him well; he is a reliable goalkeeper,” Ottolini said.
When asked about Frendrup, he clarified that while they receive inquiries about him regularly, “we have never opened up to a potential negotiation.” With only eight days left in the transfer window, he expressed uncertainty about any significant changes occurring.
