Gini Wijnaldum close to Roma return

Roma midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is edging ever closer to a return to action and could feature for the Giallorossi this weekend. The Dutchman has missed almost all of the season to date after fracturing his tibia on 20 August, spending the last six months on the sidelines as he recovered from the injury.

Il Corriere dello Sport report that Wijnaldum will take to the pitch in a practice match against the Roma Primavera squad today to assess his condition, alongside fellow new signings Ola Solbakken and Diego Llorente. The match will allow the medical staff to assess his physical and mental conditioning before making a decision on his definitive return to the first team.

Should all go well, the midfielder is expected to be called up to the squad for this weekend’s match against Lecce and could even play a few minutes of the match. Failing that, he is almost certain to be in the team for the home match against Hellas Verona on Sunday 19th February.
