Gini Wijnaldum could be out until 2023

New Roma signing Gini Wijnaldum could be out until 2023 having picked up an injury in a training session yesterday. The club confirmed that the Dutcman sustained the injury while preparing for tonight’s game against Cremonese, stating:

Following an injury sustained during training on Sunday afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg.

The player will undergo further assessments in the coming days.

Corriere dello Sport are already suggesting that the 31-year-old could miss at least 2-3 months of action, just through recovery, and may not be fully fit until 2023.

It puts Wijnaldum at serious risk of missing this years World Cup in Qatar, as well as Roma’s Europa League campaign which kicks off next month.
