Giuntoli: ‘Dybala is out of our reach’

Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli has shed light on the immediate future of Fabian Ruiz while Paulo Dybala is ‘out of their reach’. The club have a number of players in the final year of their contract while Dries Mertens has officially left the club after failing to agree a new deal.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Giuntoli began by clarifying the situation regarding Fabian Ruiz whose deal with the club ends next summer:

There is an extraordinary relationship with Fabian, we talk to his agents, we have not yet made renewal offers. He is looking around, we will wait and see if he will bring us something and we will evaluate whether we will accept or make an important offer, as we have done for Koulibaly. Right now we are in agreement, we are very serene

Mertens? Dries and the president have a particular and extraordinary relationship. They recently spoke, Aurelio offered him a deal of almost €2.5 million net, €5 million gross, which was not accepted. Could he still remain? It’s something that the president takes care of directly, I honestly can’t answer.

Dybala? We consider him out of reach, we never talked to each other and we never thought about it. He is talking to other clubs.

Meret? He is a very reliable young goalkeeper who has been in the national team for some time. Who said he is not good with the feet? I never said it. Meret is doing well, he’s done workouts to improve the things he is lacking in. To play all these competitions, including the Champions League, we need two level goalkeepers….The boy is happy with us, we have an agreement we only need to formalize.

Osimhen? No real offers. Calls expressing interest, yes. Everyone knows that we have high expectations for him, he still has three years of contract and therefore the offer must be very very important, everyone knows it.

He has immense qualities. He still has to learn something about movement times. We have exploited him a little for his  great potential on headers, this year we will try to exploit it more.

Zielinski? He is a strong footballer, who above all must find the quality that he previously had to be willing to do anything and play a few meters back from the trequartista. He needs large spaces to display the best of his qualities. Sometimes he will be forced to play low, sometimes as a second striker, consequently evaluations will be made. He has greater potential than it has shown”.
