Inter linked with Koulibaly and Chalobah

Start

Inter are preparing for life after Milan Skriniar and are being linked with a move for Chelsea defenders Trevor Chalobah and Kalidou Koulibaly. The Nerazzurri are set to lose the Slovakian centre-back on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season and are preparing a list of potential replacements that can help revitalize their backline.

La Gazzetta dello Sport outline how Koulibaly has had a season of ‘ups and downs’ at Stamford Bridge and his future at the club is uncertain, despite signing a hefty contract for €10m a season with the Blues.

Gazzetta suggest Inter would be unable to afford that kind of salary and a lot would depend on if Chelsea qualify for the Champions League, but if they fail to, Inter could use the promise of European football next season to try and tempt the Senegalese veteran to make a return to Serie A.

Talks are also reportedly continuing with centre-back Chris Smalling, given that the Roma defender will be available on a free in the summer. For now though, the Englishman looks ever more likely to continue in the Italian capital by signing a contract extension with the Giallorossi.

Trevoh Chalobah is also on the Nerazzurri’s list, despite Chelsea’s reluctance to entertain offers for the young talent who they see as having a long future at Stamford Bridge. A more realistic option may be Atalanta’s rising star Giorgio Scalvini, however La Dea are expected to place a €40m price-tag on the 19-year-old.

World Cup winner Samuel Umtiti has attracted attention following his positive performances on loan at Lecce this season. The Barcelona defender joined the Salentini on a free loan from the Catalans, but Inter are unlikely to get such favourable terms. Gazzetta suggest they could offer to take the 29-year-old on loan and offer to cover a portion of his sizeable salary.

Finally, the Nerazzurri could make a bid to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Evan Ndicka on a free transfer in the summer, despite facing strong opposition from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.
