Inter Milan’s transfer market activities are in full swing as the summer window enters its final stages. With just 15 days left, the Nerazzurri, led by President and CEO Giuseppe Marotta, along with Sporting Director Piero Ausilio and his deputy Dario Baccin, are intensifying their search for a left-footed defender to serve as a backup to Alessandro Bastoni on the left side of the three-man defence.
Calciomercato report how this pursuit is in direct response to coach Simone Inzaghi’s recent statement that the team still needs “something more at the back.” The club’s management has narrowed down their list of targets, focusing on young, promising talents in line with the new American ownership Oaktree’s directive to avoid signing players over 30.
Several names have been circulating over the past two months, including Nathan Zezé from Nantes, Mauro Perkovic from Dinamo Zagreb, Robert Renan currently on loan at Internacional from Zenit St. Petersburg, Felipe Rodrigues da Silva (Morato) from Benfica, Mikayil Faye from Barcelona’s youth setup, and Tomas Palacios, currently on loan at Independiente Rivadavia from Club Atletico Talleres.
However, it appears that Inter have made their choice. According to reports, the club is preparing to make a move for Tomas Palacios. Despite strong competition, particularly from RB Leipzig, Inter are looking to replicate last year’s successful acquisition of Yann Bisseck by moving swiftly. They are reportedly ready to submit an offer of 5 million euros for the Argentine defender.
As a backup plan, Inter are keeping Mikayil Faye on their radar. However, Barcelona’s asking price of 15 million euros for the Senegalese youngster remains a significant obstacle.
With Inter able to sign one more non-EU player this season following the arrival of Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi and the departure of Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, the stage is set for a crucial defensive reinforcement in the coming days.
