Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has praised his side’s display on Tuesday night after the Nerazzurri defeated Benfica 1-0 to find their first Champions League victory of the season.
Inzaghi was present at the San Siro press room as he discussed the performance by Inter, Marcus Thuram and Benjamin Pavard:
We saw the Inter of the great Champions League nights again: “Absolutely, we had a second half of incredible intensity, the boys were very good. We prepared the match well. Balanced first half, we could have already taken the lead, then in the second half we raised the intensity. With every action it seemed we could score a goal against a team of great champions. We thoroughly deserved the victory.”
On Inter from a technical point of view and Thuram: “Stunning second half, we’ve already seen this Inter with this intensity. And to think that we returned from Salerno at 4, the boys were able to do little or nothing on Sunday, congratulations to them. Thuram has a sore calf, let’s hope it’s nothing. Doctors are quite calm, but you have to wait at least 24 hours.”
On how Pavard can improve: “We know his qualities, when his name came out with the managers I was enthusiastic: he is an amazing player. He has fitted in well, he is a world champion. The thing I liked most about him is how he has fitted in, he found Thuram and Mkhitaryan who speak French and they helped him.”
