Inzaghi: ‘We Were Excellent Against Atalanta’

Start

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was thrilled with his sides 4-0 win over Atalanta, saying ‘these are excellent signs of our journey’. The Nerazzurri boss was speaking with Sky Sport Italia after the one-sided victory which took Inter 12 points clear at the top of the table, and closing in on their second silver star:

“We were excellent. In the first ten to fifteen minutes, Atalanta pressed us high, and we had to adjust. We didn’t approach the game as we usually do, but then we found the goal and hit the crossbar. We returned to the field with ferocity; these are excellent signs of our journey, which must continue without interruption,” said Simone Inzaghi to Dazn after Inter-Atalanta.

Regarding a particular incident involving Dimarco: “While we were waiting for the VAR, I spoke to Dimarco and told him to stay wider, going for the rebound; I also told him to relay it to Dumfries because we needed our full-backs there. Then Federico did well not to enter too early, to time it right and score a goal that would have closed the game. We must always do this, even when Calhanoglu shoots: against Verona, their player arrived first on the rebound; these are important details, and there’s always room for improvement.”

On the team’s qualities: “There’s no denying it, the team plays well. But for two and a half years, I’ve been enjoying: we’ve won five titles, reached a Champions League final, and now in the league, we’ve built a good margin. But both I and the team know that the gap was created in just one month; there are many matches, and we must remain focused.”

Regarding the numerous rotations: “I have a team that changes players but sticks to its principles: I believe it’s the greatest satisfaction along with what we’ve created at San Siro with our fans. When you change 7-8 players, and it’s a pleasure to see who comes in… Now it’s difficult for me to make formations: I think of Dumfries, who was excellent against Lecce. Perhaps today he deserved to start, but Darmian hasn’t put a foot wrong in the last two months, and tonight he had an exceptional first half. Then with the yellow card, I had to replace him. I have wonderful guys who give me everything they have in 10-20-90 minutes.”

On the future: “I’m very well here; I feel great with my club, with these fans, and with the players. It’s pointless to talk about contracts now; in these three months, extreme concentration is required. Talking about anything else doesn’t interest me, and I think it doesn’t interest the club either. Clearly, they’ll be happy to see an Inter playing in this way…”

Regarding Frattesi’s condition: “I wanted to make sure of his condition. He was extraordinary in Lecce, but fifteen minutes before the end, he had cramps; he’s in great shape now, he came in today, and you can see in training how well he’s doing. He’s one of the most penalized guys, he’s giving us satisfaction despite often coming on as a substitute. He has an overflowing physical condition.”
