Juventus have begun contacts with Monza regarding left-back Carlos Augusto, but will face competition from Inter. The Brazilian was one of the revelations of last season, playing a key role in the Biancorossi’s excellent run of results under coach Rafaele Palladino. Inter have been following the 24-year-old since the start of the summer, but reports in Italy suggest they will go head-to-head against perennial rivals Juventus in the race to sign Augusto.
Goal Italia and Sky Sport Italia report that the Bianconeri have spoken with Monza more than once in the last week to discuss the prospect of signing the left-back.
Juve are in need of viable options on the left-flank, given that Alex Sandro’s future at the club remains uncertain, while Mattia De Sciglio remains an injury doubt until the start of the season. The Old Lady are also being linked with a move for Leicester City full-back Timothy Castagane, following the clubs relegation to the Championship, but talks looks to have cooled for the moment.
Inter, meanwhile, will need to make a decision on the future of left-back Robin Gosens who is being tracked by Bundesliga clubs Union Berlin and Wolfsburg. The German international’s departure is likely to dictate their need for Augusto.
