Juventus are on the verge of securing a major transfer coup as they have reportedly reached an agreement with Atalanta for the acquisition of Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. The deal, which has been in the works since January, is now closer than ever to completion.
According to Tuttosport, Juventus have agreed to pay Atalanta a base fee of €52 million for Koopmeiners, with an additional €6 million in potential bonuses based on certain conditions being met by the end of the season. The player himself has already agreed to personal terms with Juventus, reportedly set to sign a five-year contract worth €3.5 million per season, taking advantage of Italy’s Growth Decree tax benefits.
Koopmeiners’ situation at Atalanta has become untenable, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini describing him as “the victim of the situation.” The midfielder has effectively become isolated from the team as he pushes for the move to Turin.
However, before Koopmeiners can don the black and white stripes of Juventus, one crucial step remains. Atalanta is insisting on securing a replacement before finalizing the transfer. The Bergamo club has identified Celtic’s Matt O’Riley as their preferred option, valued at around €30 million. Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic is also being considered as a more budget-friendly alternative.
Once Atalanta successfully brings in a replacement, they are expected to give the green light for Koopmeiners to complete his move to Juventus. While it’s highly unlikely that the Dutch international will be available for Juventus’ season opener against Como, the Bianconeri are eager to integrate him into Thiago Motta’s squad as soon as possible.
