Kean: “At Juventus I plunged into darkness, at Fiorentina I saw the stars again. Vlahovic encouraged me”

Moise Kean has experienced a remarkable resurgence at Fiorentina under Raffaele Palladino’s guidance. The 24-year-old striker is enjoying a golden period, leading Fiorentina’s charge in both Serie A and the Conference League. His impressive start to the season has earned him a recall to the national team, convincing coach Spalletti. The numbers speak for themselves: 10 goals in 10 league games, 15 in total this season, including one for Italy.

In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Kean reflected on his journey:

“In Turin, I had plunged into darkness. In Florence, I’ve come to see the stars again. Last year, injuries weighed heavily and affected me. I lost many great opportunities, including the possibility of going to Atletico Madrid in January. It was a difficult year, especially mentally. Some people fall into depression, but I reacted. Florence has made me reborn.”

On choosing Fiorentina, Kean explained, “I chose it because it resembles me, it’s ambitious like me. It’s also for the pride of its people for their colors. Florence is warm and passionate and has had great strikers in its history. When the opportunity came, Vlahovic encouraged me.”

Kean praised his coach Palladino: “He’s ambitious too. He wanted me at Monza last January, but it wasn’t possible. He’s a great person, for me more than a coach.”

Reflecting on the recent incident involving Bove, Kean shared, “That Sunday, my life flashed before my eyes. Edo was close to me, I was terrified when he collapsed. Fortunately, it’s over now. He’s even come back more smiling than before. We hugged and cuddled him, we’re a united group, we care for each other, this has helped us in moments of discouragement.”

On his time at Juventus, Kean holds no grudges: “No bitterness. If I hadn’t chosen to go to Juve, I wouldn’t be here today and wouldn’t have had this type of career. Turin is a great club, but I couldn’t resist the charm of the Bianconeri. I was a child and at that age, you don’t look much at the rivalry between teams. But I chose well: I had to make that leap. I felt the desire to try within me.”

Kean also spoke about his faith and personal growth: “When I was little, my mom took me to church, even when I didn’t want to. Now I thank her. And since I’ve been at Fiorentina, I’ve put faith even more into practice. I decided to change many things. I stopped a certain type of life to feel more mentally free. Because if you find God, you find peace. And that’s what I needed.”

On his friendships in football, Kean mentioned, “Leao and McKennie are my closest friends in this environment. With Rafa, I have musical projects we’re working on. McKennie brings out the child in me: we laugh a lot, even at stupid things. Otherwise, life becomes sad.”

Kean concluded by praising Fiorentina’s facilities: “The training center at Continassa is beautiful and functional, but the Viola Park is something wonderful. Perfect for working. In such an environment, you can only do well. We must applaud President Commisso, he’s giving so much love to Fiorentina.”
