Lazio president Claudio Lotito called the scrapping of the Italian Growth Decree a ‘great nonsense’ that runs the risk of destroying certain teams. Italian media confirmed that the government plans to scrap the tax benefit at the end of the year, something Lotito believes has the power to derail the competitiveness of Serie A and Italian football:
“A great nonsense that has been done, a great idea! Now I want to see who comes from abroad. The State also loses out, as it will collect less money.
‘The players association? They are the ones who did everything they could to make this regulation succumb, they said things out of all logic when talking about the protection of the youth academy, as if they were taking 14-year-olds to the first team.
“Bravo, now I want to see what they will do, the league is destined to lose competitiveness. Minister Abodi? I understand that he was in favour of the two-month extension, but he skipped that too. I don’t know the facts, we’ll see.”
“Will Lazio suffer? Lazio has no particular problems with its contracts, but teams like Milan, Juventus and Roma risk being destroyed by this kind of situation.”
