Marin Pongracic has chosen to join Fiorentina, with his medical examinations scheduled for Thursday. The Croatian defender was previously expected to move to Rennes, but has now decided to remain in Italy and transfer to the Viola.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Fiorentina have reached an agreement with Lecce for Pongracic’s transfer, with the deal worth €15 million plus €1 million in bonuses. This move represents an intriguing market development, as Lecce and Rennes had initially agreed on terms for the player’s transfer to France.
However, Fiorentina’s late entry into negotiations changed the situation. The Viola were searching for a defender to replace the departing Nikola Milenkovic, and Pongracic emerged as their preferred target. The opportunity to stay in Italy, where he has already adapted well, proved to be a decisive factor for the 26-year-old Croatian international.
