Roma’s latest signing, Matías Soulé, has expressed his excitement and gratitude in his first interview as a Roma player. The 21-year-old Argentine, who signed a permanent contract until 2029, spoke to Roma TV following the official announcement of his transfer.
Soulé began by thanking the club’s ownership, stating, “I’m really happy. I thank the Friedkin family, who brought me here – they did everything to bring me. It’s a dream for me to be here. They wanted me, just as I also wanted to be here.”
The young forward was overwhelmed by the warm reception he received from fans at the airport, saying, “It was beautiful, I didn’t expect it. I knew there were a few people, but not like this. I would never have imagined this in my life.”
Soulé revealed that his compatriots at Roma, Leandro Paredes and Paulo Dybala, played a role in his decision to join the club. He shared, “As soon as the first rumors circulated that I could come, they told me about everything that happens here. About how good it was to play for this club, I also asked them everything. Every day we talked more and more with Paulo, and he told me: ‘Come on, I’ll wait for you here. I have the place free for you…'”
The Argentine embraces the expectations and responsibility that come with his move, stating, “If I’m appreciated, I like it even more. I will have to prove it on the pitch, repay the trust of the club and of the fans who were waiting for me yesterday.”
Soulé also expressed gratitude towards his former coach and sporting director at Frosinone, saying, “I wouldn’t be here today without Di Francesco and Angelozzi. Without them I wouldn’t have gotten here, I wouldn’t have had the chance to play, they gave me their trust from day one.”
Looking ahead to working with Roma coach Daniele De Rossi, Soulé said, “De Rossi’s style of play can be very important for me. I considered everything before coming here. Last year I saw how the team played, how it has changed since he arrived. It was truly incredible.”
The young forward concluded his interview with a message to the fans: “To the fans I say, thank you for the welcome at the airport, it was wonderful for me, I will also thank you on the pitch, demonstrating what I can do. See you at the stadium. Daje Roma.”
