Mauro Meluso, the former sporting director of Napoli, recently shared his thoughts on various football matters during an appearance on Sky Sport’s Special Transfer Market program. Meluso spent just one season with the Partenopei, helping preside over their unsuccessful title defence following the departure of Luciano Spalletti.
Regarding Piotr Zielinski’s potential move to Inter Milan, Meluso expressed regret, stating, “The Zielinski to Inter situation could have been avoided. I regret not intervening more forcefully to close the deal. The Polish player represented a very important technical, financial, and human asset.”
On the topic of Victor Osimhen’s future, Meluso commented, “When there’s high demand, the price goes up. Everyone looks out for their own interests. The market in England and Arabia hasn’t even taken off yet… A solution will be found. Napoli will manage the situation in the best possible way.”
Addressing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s contract situation, he said, “There will be developments in the negotiations. They’ll find a solution in this case too. He’s a world-class player, among the best in Europe.”
Meluso also shared his views on other clubs and transfers. He praised Milan’s appointment of Paulo Fonseca as coach and emphasized the need for a physically strong, substantial player if their pursuit of Fofana falls through. Regarding Juventus, he stated, “I believe Todibo is among the strongest center-backs in Europe.”
Concluding with comments on Inter Milan, Meluso said, “Inter has made important signings. They’ve acquired free agents, but of great caliber. I believe they’re a competitive team today, just as they were last year. Of course, defending the title is always difficult. Rival teams are gearing up. But I think it will be an exciting championship.”
