Milan among the teams looking to Julen Lopetegui

As Stefano Pioli faces mounting speculation over his future at Milan, with his expected departure looming after the team’s exit from the Europa League quarter-finals against 10-man Roma, the search for his successor is underway.

Various candidates have been floated, with reports from Sky Sport Italia indicating a list that includes Ruben Amorim, Xavi, Unai Emery, and Sergio Conceicao, alongside the heavily mentioned Julen Lopetegui.

While Lopetegui has garnered attention, particularly from West Ham United, who have reportedly offered him a lucrative deal, there is growing skepticism among fans and pundits alike. Despite his credentials, doubts persist about whether his appointment would represent an improvement over Pioli, with protests brewing on social media and Sky Sport Italia pundits cautioning against the move.

Milan, seeking an international perspective, are  considering options beyond Lopetegui. Reports suggest a preference for a foreign coach, with names like Marcelo Gallardo, Christophe Galtier, and Paulo Fonseca dismissed by some sources. Instead, attention is drawn to figures like Xavi, whom Zlatan Ibrahimovic is said to favour, and Thiago Motta, although the latter is reportedly bound for Juventus.

Other contenders include Ruben Amorim, potentially bound for Liverpool, and Sergio Conceicao, expressing interest in returning to Serie A. Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel’s anticipated departure from Bayern Munich and Unai Emery’s current position at Aston Villa have also sparked speculation, with Emery linked to Manchester United as well.
