Reports from Italy suggest that Milan’s pursuit of Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana has received an unexpected boost. West Ham United, previously one of the most aggressive suitors for Fofana, are now close to finalizing a deal for Argentine midfielder Guido Rodriguez. This shift in focus could pave the way for Milan to secure Fofana’s signature.
Calciomercato report that Julen Lopetegui, the new manager of West Ham, has prioritized the acquisition of Rodriguez, who recently left Real Betis. The Hammers are reportedly finalizing a three-year contract with the Argentine World Cup winner, easing the competition for Milan in their chase for Fofana.
Milan have been working diligently to meet Monaco’s €20 million asking price for Fofana. Their latest offer has increased progressively from €12 million to €17 million. Fofana, whose contract with Monaco runs until 2025, is reportedly keen on the move to Milan and is expected to earn €3 million per season over a four-year contract.
Despite the progress, Milan’s negotiations with Monaco have been challenging. Monaco’s sporting director, Thiago Scuro, emphasized the need to meet specific conditions for Fofana’s transfer. However, with West Ham now focusing on Rodriguez, Milan’s chances of landing Fofana have significantly improved.
