AC Milan striker Alvaro Morata has been compelled to change his residence following an unwelcome public announcement by Marco Ballarini, the mayor of Corbetta. The Spanish international had chosen the town, the second largest in the Magenta area with about 19,000 inhabitants, hoping for privacy. However, the mayor’s social media post shattered those expectations.
Corriere dello Sport detail how Ballarini posted on social media: “Alvaro Morata is in Corbetta, Here We Go! The Spanish striker, Milan’s new signing, is finalizing the paperwork for his official transfer to his new (wonderful) home in our city.” He added, “I’m a huge Inter fan, but I’m pleased to welcome Alvaro Morata to our big Corbetta family!”
Morata responded furiously via Instagram Stories: “Thank you for violating my privacy. Fortunately, I don’t own any valuables, my only treasure is my children whose safety has been disturbed by you. I thought the municipality of Corbetta could guarantee me some privacy, instead I find myself having to change house immediately thanks to your inability to use social media and protect your citizens.”
The mayor’s post went viral, leading to a flood of comments from Milan fans and football enthusiasts on Ballarini’s Instagram account. Many supporters sided with Morata, triggering a wave of criticism against the mayor.
Ballarini, surprised by the backlash, defended his actions: “I’m surprised and sorry for the player’s reaction. There’s no privacy violation because I didn’t disclose any municipal documents. We simply wanted to welcome him since he’s been seen shopping, at restaurants, and bars multiple times.” He added, “We never mentioned the street where he lives or which house is his.”
The mayor also noted that a similar situation with another player, Onana, two years ago didn’t cause any issues. He expressed regret over Morata’s reaction and the subsequent insults from fans, stating he would have removed the post if Morata had asked directly.
