Napoli’s midfield makeover: Gilmour deal sealed, McTominay in sights

Start

Napoli’s transfer market is heating up as the club aims to bolster its squad following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Verona in their season opener. After securing David Neres from Benfica, the Italian side is now focusing on strengthening their midfield and attack.

According to Calciomercato, the club has reached a verbal agreement with Brighton for Billy Gilmour. The deal, worth €18 million including bonuses, is nearly complete, with only minor details left to iron out. Gilmour has accepted a five-year contract with an annual salary of €2 million plus bonuses. Medical examinations for the 22-year-old Scottish midfielder are scheduled for early next week.

However, Napoli’s midfield reinforcement plans don’t stop with Gilmour. The club is also eyeing Scott McTominay from Manchester United. The Red Devils are demanding between €25-30 million for the Scottish international and are not considering a loan option. To facilitate this move, Napoli may need to finalize the sale of Victor Osimhen for a fee close to the €150 million release clause set during his recent contract renewal.

Meanwhile, Sporting Director Giovanni Manna is set to meet with Chelsea representatives today to accelerate negotiations for Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker has already agreed to personal terms with Napoli, accepting a three-year contract worth €6 million per season plus bonuses.
