AC Milan Make Leon Goretzka Enquiry With Bayern Munich Midfielder Set For Free Transfer
The midfielder is set to become a free agent in the summer.
AC Milan have sounded out a potential swoop for Leon Goretzka if he leaves Bayern Munich.
AC Milan And Juventus Want Leon Goretzka
Goretzka is expected to leave the Bundesliga giants at the end of the season, and Milan are among several elite clubs positioning themselves to snap him up on a free transfer.
The midfielder has not extended his Bayern contract and looks set to take on a new challenge, potentially in Italy, as reported by FootItalia.
During his eight years in Bavaria, Goretzka has won the top-flight title six times. He was also part of the squad which won the Champions League in 2020.
However, his minutes have been reduced this season. He has played just 15 times in the league, scoring one goal, and is no longer an automatic starter under Vincent Kompany.
Milan, already scouting for bargain deals in the summer, have gathered information on Goretzka, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Juventus are also understood to be in the race. Indeed, Luciano Spalletti wants to strengthen his midfield options, and believes Goretzka would bring bite and, crucially, trophy-winning experience to his side.
While Spalletti would be happy to bring him in this month, Bayern don’t currently want to lose him. As a result, any potential switch to Serie A would take place at the end of the campaign.
Despite Goretzka still being played regularly by Kompany, the tactician is inclined to use younger players. This likely explains the club’s willingness to eventually let him leave.
Who Will Leon Goretzka Join Next Summer?
Napoli are also frontrunners for his signature, but others are expected to also register their interest. However, there is said to be a degree of confidence in Turin that they can convince the German international to join.
This is despite Napoli viewing Goretzka as a potential Kevin De Bruyne replacement.
According to Bild, Bayern have no plans to offer him fresh terms. This has allowed Goretzka to begin weighing up his next move.
In fact, Milan, Juventus and Napoli can now officially begin negotiations, with the 30-year-old in the final six months of his deal.
Addressing the situation on Sky Sports, Di Marzio said: “There are some players whose contracts expire in June, some very important ones, who are attracting attention.
“One is Bernardo Silva, who has been linked to Como, Napoli, and Juventus. Another is Goretzka, who hasn’t yet decided whether to extend his contract with Bayern Munich. AC Milan have also inquired.
“They are trying to determine if there is scope to understand the player’s wishes and, above all, his financial demands. The midfielder is 31 years old.”
Juventus also want Silva, as reported by FootItalia.
