Atalanta Could Now Sell Ademola Lookman After Giacomo Raspadori Transfer Coup
Lookman will return from the Africa Cup of Nations with his future uncertain.
Ademola Lookman could soon be on the way out of Atalanta, according to reports.
Turkish Clubs Interested In Ademola Lookman
As reported by FootItalia, Giacomo Raspadori will join from Atletico Madrid after shock behind-the-scenes negotiations. Roma had looked to be in pole position, but could not reach an agreement on terms.
With the forward expected to start on the left-hand side, Lookman’s position in the starting XI – and, indeed, the squad – looks in jeopardy. Lazar Samardzic and Daniel Maldini also look to have jumped ahead of him.
Lazio and Napoli are both interested in Lookman, whose departure, it is said, is almost a ‘given’.
The 28-year-old is highly sought after and is being chased by at least two clubs in Turkey. He had been on Galatasaray’s radar in November, while Fenerbahce have also made contact in recent days.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, a Galatasaray executive travelled to Milan to hold negotiations.
Personal terms are unlikely to be a problem, with the club said to be open to handing Lookman an annual salary of €9million, a significant increase from the €2.5m he currently earns in Bergamo.
This lucrative package has somewhat weakened Atalanta’s hand, but for now, they appear determined to resist any approaches this month.
While their position could change over the coming weeks, they would prefer to keep the forward until next summer. In the short term, they will welcome him back from the Africa Cup of Nations in their charge for Europe.
No Ademola Lookman Price Tag Set
Neither Galatasaray nor Fenerbahce are believed to have made a concrete bid for Lookman.
His price tag is also not currently known. According to Calciomercato, Atalanta are reserving the right to ‘decide the terms of his departure’, effectively indicating they would only weigh up a sale in the event of a big offer.
Lookman has impressed since arriving from RB Leipzig on a permanent deal in 2022. He infamously scored a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2024 Europa League final, sealing his name in the club’s folklore.
Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich made a deadline day approach during the summer worth €28m. Atalanta, however, did not even bother to respond, despite Lookman being open to leaving.
He had previously voiced his frustration after his request for a departure was blocked earlier in the window, sensationally accusing them of “broken promises” and “poor treatment”.
