Inter Make Second Bid to Sign Ademola Lookman with €45m Offer as Atalanta Hold Firm

Start

Inter have submitted an improved offer to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with talks intensifying over what could become one of the biggest Serie A transfers of the summer.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Tuesday that Inter tabled a fresh bid worth €40 million plus €5 million in bonuses, taking their total package to €45 million.

Atalanta has yet to accept the offer and is reportedly still holding out for a figure closer to €50 million.

The two clubs have been locked in negotiations for weeks, and while progress has been made, a formal agreement is not yet in place.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter consider their latest offer to be final and are now awaiting a decision from the Bergamo club.

Does Lookman Want To Go To Inter?

Lookman, 27, has made his intentions clear. Despite a recent contract renewal offer from Atalanta that matched Inter’s financial terms, the Nigerian forward has turned it down in order to pursue a move to San Siro.

Reports from Italy suggest Lookman is determined to join Inter, where he is seen as a key attacking piece in Simone Inzaghi’s new-look side.

Inter has already invested in midfield and defense this summer, and now wants to refresh their forward line with the addition of the Europa League winner.

The winger’s desire to stay in Serie A and his personal preference for Inter give the Nerazzurri a strong advantage, but Atalanta are not under pressure to sell, particularly after qualifying for the Champions League and already offloading other players this summer.

Why Inter Wants Ademola Lookman

Lookman enjoyed a sensational 2024/25 campaign, scoring 20 goals across all competitions, including 15 in Serie A – only Moise Kean (19) and ex-teammate Mateo Retegui (25) scored more.

His pace, directness, and ability to play across the front three make him an ideal fit for Inzaghi’s system.

At 27, Lookman is entering his prime and still has two years left on his Atalanta contract, giving La Dea strong leverage in negotiations.

Still, Inter believes their €45m proposal represents fair market value, especially after high-level talks between Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta and Atalanta’s Luca Percassi were described as “constructive.”

Who Else Could Sign Lookman?

Despite Inter’s confidence, the door isn’t fully closed to other suitors. Atletico Madrid has shown interest in the Nigeria international, and clubs in England have also monitored the situation.

However, Lookman’s desire to remain in Italy may be the decisive factor.

Unless Atalanta receives a substantially higher offer, Inter remains in pole position. With personal terms already in place, the transfer now hinges on the two clubs agreeing on a final fee structure – something that could be settled in early August.

Inter are not expected to raise their offer further, but they remain hopeful that Atalanta will accept the current €45 million package.

Should the deal be completed, Lookman would become one of the marquee signings of the summer window.
