AC Milan have  confirmed that Alessandro Florenzi will return to Italy to undergo an operation on his knee. The decision follows an injury he sustained during the 40th minute of the match against Manchester City, where he went down in significant pain, leading to immediate concerns about a potentially long-term absence.

After an MRI and specialist evaluation, it was determined that Florenzi has suffered ligament and meniscal damage, necessitating arthroscopic surgery. This will be his third knee surgery since joining Milan, though he has fortunately avoided a ligament tear this time.

With Florenzi sidelined, Davide Calabria is expected to take over the right-back position, supported by Pierre Kalulu and younger players like Andrea Bakoune and Davide Bartesaghi. The injury may also expedite Milan’s interest in acquiring Emerson Royal, who has been a rumored target in recent days.

Florenzi’s return to Italy for surgery marks a critical moment for Milan as they navigate these defensive challenges and potential transfer market moves.
