After nine years in Italy with Juventus, Alex Sandro seems poised to bid farewell to Serie A and embark on a new chapter in his career, possibly back in his homeland. The 33-year-olds contract is set to expire on June 30th, and the Brazilian defender is evaluating offers from various quarters, including those from Saudi Arabia, for the upcoming season. One of the emerging possibilities is a return to Brazil.
According to reports from UOL Esporte, Sandro has recently been the subject of initial contacts with São Paulo FC, who have expressed interest in negotiating, especially given the serious knee injury suffered by left-back Welington.
Sandro’s last stint in Brazil dates back to the 2010/2011 season when he contributed to Santos’ Copa Libertadores triumph, following his early career at Athletico Paranaense. He later moved to Porto, where he played from 2011 to 2015, before joining Juventus for €28 million.
Throughout this season, marked by several physical issues and Allegri’s consistent use of him as a left-sided central defender, Sandro has made 15 league appearances, bringing his total appearances for Juventus to 326, just one shy of Pavel Nedvěd’s record of 327, making Nedvěd the foreign player with the most appearances in the history of the Old Lady.
