Antonio Conte was left seething after a crunching late tackle from Olympiacos’ Ayoub El Kaabi floored defender Amir Rrahmani during Thursday’s friendly.

The Napoli boss walked straight on to the pitch to voice his feelings towards El Kaabi. A melee ensued as Rrahmani rolled around in agony by the touchline.

Players, coaching staff and officials all tried to restrain and calm Conte down. The fiery head coach had seen enough questionable tackles throughout the match and wanted to vent his frustrations.

Antonio Conte Loses His Cool Vs Olympiacos

During Thurday’s 2-1 win over Olympiacos, Antonio Conte snapped at Ayoub El Kaabi for his reckless challenge on Amir Rrahmani.

Conte had seen a number of questionable tackles on his players and entered the field to blast El Kaabi and to remind the officials it was a friendly and to stamp out such conduct.

El Kaabi received a yellow card for the 35th minute incident and Rrahmani was able to carry on. In fact, both players played the whole match.

Matteo Politano opened the scoring for the Italian champions prior to Conte’s rage. Summer signing Lorenzo Lucca doubled the lead in the second half before Chiquinho pulled one back late on for the Greeks.

Napoli’s Pre-Season Results

After Antonio Conte’s side completed their 2025 pre-season against Olympiacos on August 14, will their results have any bearing on their league position this season?

Italian soccer icon Paolo Di Canio has backed Napoli to win Serie A in 2025-26. That despite some questionable friendly scores this summer.

A 2-0 defeat to lowly Arezzo certainly provided a reality check for Conte’s charges. So would the 2-1 loss to Brest and the 1-1 draw with Casertana.

However, victories were recorded against Catanzaro, Girona, Sorrento and Olympiacos. Supporters won’t be too concerned going into the new season as naturally, pre-season is all about building up fitness and bedding new players into the roster.

Romelu Lukaku Injury Update

Another talking point from Napoli’s win against Olympiacos alongside Antonio Conte’s rant was the injury picked up by Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian forward was subbed off in the 32nd minute for Lorenzo Lucca.

Lukaku had just taken a shot before clutching his left thigh. The 32-year-old came off the field in discomfort and was later seen with an ice pack on his leg.

Although the Azzurri haven’t posted an official update yet, it appears that Lukaku could be out for at least the season opener against Sassuolo next week.

If that is to be the case, Lucca is set to be given the nod to play from the off against last season’s Serie B winners at the Mapei Stadium.
