Antony is reportedly considering a move to Serie A, as Real Betis are not willing to meet Manchester United’s $35 million asking price.
Could Antony Stay At Manchester United?
The Brazilian has endured a difficult time in Manchester after arriving from Ajax for a club-record fee of $95 million in the 2022 summer transfer window.
After scoring in each of his opening three Premier League appearances, many supporters believed that Antony would go on to achieve great things at Old Trafford – but this failed to materialize.
From 10th October 2022 to 16th April 2023, the tricky winger did not score a single goal in the Premier League and capped off a difficult opening season in England.
Things went from bad to worse for Antony in the 2023/24 season, as he failed to find the back of the net until 27th April 2024, meaning the Brazilian did not score in England’s top-flight for over a year.
The 2024/25 season culminated with what many expected to occur following Ruben Amorim’s appointment as Manchester United manager, as Antony joined Real Betis on loan in January of this year.
To many people’s surprise, the 25-year-old set the world alight in Spain, scoring some stunning strikes and contributing to 14 goals in 26 appearances (9G + 5A).
This tally is just three behind his overall contributing in Manchester, despite making 96 appearances for the Red Devils and the Brazilian’s stocks increased drastically from his spell in La Liga.
Despite his performances for Betis, Manchester United are reportedly set on cutting ties with Antony this summer and are willing to entertain any offers at around $35m.
A return to Betis appeared to be the most likely option, being favorites on betting apps, however, the Spanish side are reportedly unwilling to meet United’s asking price and will move onto other targets.
Atletico Madrid are now leading the race to sign the former Ajax player, but the Brazilian may be looking elsewhere after reported interest from Serie A.
Will Antony Move To Serie A?
Following his successful loan spell in Spain, which also saw Antony reach the Europa Conference League final, the Brazilian has attracted interest from a host of clubs around Europe.
The 25-year-old came up against a Serie A side in the UECL semi-finals, scoring twice and registering assist across two-legs against Fiorentina to secure a place in the final.
Such a high-level of performance against an Italian side has caught the eye of another Serie A giant, as AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing the winger this summer.
Milan also turned their attention to another Manchester United ‘flop’ in Rasmus Hojlund, however, the Danish international appears to be staying in England for another year.
Massimiliano Allegri will take the reins in Milan for the 2025/26 season and has already added the likes of Samuele Ricci, Luka Modric and Pietro Terracciano.
The Rossoneri are also close to completing the signing of Pervis Estupinan from Brighton and Antony could be another option to add some electricity to the Milan flanks.
