The latest Assane Diao injury update has revealed the Como star has been ruled out of action until October.
Diao has been a huge hit at the Sinigaglia after moving to Cesc Fabregas’ side in January 2025. The Senegalese winger chipped in with eight Serie A goals and an assist in 15 outings.
Still aged 19, Diao has an extremely bright future ahead of him but this latest setback comes as a huge blow to both club and player.
Assane Diao Injury Update
FootItalia’s Bologna vs Como preview leaned towards a score draw but with Assane Diao ruled out, the Rossoblu will fancy their chances on MD2.
As for Diao, it’s the second injury he has had of this nature. The 19-year-old missed the last five Serie A games in 2024-25 with the same issue. He had surgery to correct the problem which meant he missed a part of pre-season.
However, he did play the full 90 minutes and score against Real Betis in a club friendly last month. Diao also featured in this season’s Coppa Italia against Sudtirol.
The Senegalese winger missed last week’s victory over Lazio on MD1. His latest setback came in training whereby Como confirmed the severity of the problem.
Como Statement On Assane Diao
“Como 1907 announces that, during a training session, footballer Assane Diao sustained an injury. Medical tests revealed a fissure in the shaft of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot,” Como said in a statement on Friday.
“After consulting Professor Neik Van Dijk, a specialist in foot surgery, the decision was made to proceed with conservative treatment.
“The recovery time will depend on how the injury progresses, but it is expected to be around five weeks.”
What Games Will Assane Diao Miss?
Assane Diao will miss Saturday’s clash with Bologna as well as Senegal’s World Cup qualifiers against Sudan and the DR Congo.
After the international break, Como won’t be able to call upon Diao for the domestic fixtures against Genoa (H), Fiorentina (A) and Cremonese (H).
He will also miss the Coppa Italia 2nd round clash against Sassuolo. A likely return date of early October is what Cesc Fabregas’ side will be hoping for. On the 5th, the Spaniard’s charges take on Atalanta at the Sinigaglia.
