Atalanta are making significant progress in their pursuit of Kamaldeen Sulemana, with negotiations intensifying in recent hours.
The Southampton winger has been identified as a key target by newly appointed head coach Ivan Juric, who coached him during the latter half of the 2024-25 season in England.
According to multiple reports, including Alfredo Pedullà and TuttoAtalanta, Atalanta have already submitted an offer worth €17 million plus bonuses, while Southampton are holding out for €20 million.
Talks between the two clubs remain ongoing, but confidence is growing that an agreement can soon be reached.
Why Juric Wants Sulemana
The Ghanaian international played under Juric in the Premier League earlier this year and looked a bright spark despite Southampton’s struggles. Sulemana featured in 30 games, scoring twice and providing three assists while logging over 1,000 minutes.
Juric sees the 23-year-old as a critical piece for his new-look Atalanta side. The winger’s direct style and pace on the break fit the Croatian manager’s tactical vision, and internal approval has already been granted for the move.
Sulemana is reportedly preparing for life in Serie A and is open to a permanent switch to Bergamo.
Is Sulemana Replacing Lookman at Atalanta?
The Sulemana deal comes amid speculation that Ademola Lookman is considering a switch to Napoli, with Antonio Conte interested in improving his options in wide attacking areas.
However, no formal bid has been made for the CAF African Footballer of the Year, and sources suggest the Partenopei are unlikely to act in the short term.
Lookman’s potential departure could be eased by Sulemana’s arrival, however, offering Atalanta a bit of continuity and a player already familiar with the manager’s demands.
If completed, Sulemana could be a smart pickup by Atalanta. His versatility on either wing and his high ceiling make him a logical fit as the Bergamo side begins a new chapter under Juric.
