Atalanta Face Competition From Manchester United and Ajax For Armenian Gem Eduard Spertsyan

Start

Atalanta transfer news heads to Russia as the club continue an intriguing rebuild in the offseason, with Armenian technician Eduard Spertsyan the subject of interest.

Who is Eduard Spertsyan?

For all the soccer hipsters and Football Manager players out there, Eduard Spertsyan likely rings a bell.

Despite constant rumours linking him with a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues over the years, the 25-year-old has remained fiercely loyal to Russian Premier Liga side Krasnodar.

Having pushed through the ranks as a teenager, Spertsyan has been one of the most consistent midfielders in Europe since making his debut in 2018, let alone in the Russian top-flight.

Since making his first appearance in the Russian Premier League, he has racked up four double-digit seasons for goal involvements, including 11 goals and six assists last season, as Krasnodar lifted the first title in their history.

76 goal involvements in just under 150 games is no mean feat, and Krasnodar’s rise from lower league minnows to league champions has been firmly led by captain Spertsyan.

Luring the Armenia international away from a club that he has called home his entire career may prove tricky, but reports suggest he could finally be ready to make the leap.

Atalanta Transfer News Suggests Eduard Spertsyan is a Key Target

According to Tutto Atalanta in Italy, Atalanta are among a host of European elite chasing his services.

La Dea have begun to move forward without now-Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini for the first time in almost a decade. They have already picked up three new signings by making loan deals permanent for centre-back Odilon Kossounou, as well as midfield duo Lazar Samardzic and Marco Brescianini.

Atalanta’s resourceful transfer model, which has proven overwhelmingly successful in a landscape saturated with money, likely means they will sanction at least one high-profile sale.

Napoli are reportedly preparing a bid for Ademola Lookman, who has also been linked with the likes of Arsenal, while last season’s Serie A top scorer Mateo Retegui is flirting with some of the continent’s big names.

In step Eduard Spertsyan, who fits Atalanta’s model of a lesser-known, cut-price transfer target with consistently high numbers.

The leading pack for his signature also includes Ajax, Brentford, Leeds and Manchester United, who are all reportedly willing to pay in excess of his $28 million valuation.

According to live betting sites, Leeds are well-positioned for his signature as they look to bolster the midfield after promotion to the Premier League.
